Marlins Lose Again; 1 Game Out Of Last Place

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (CBSMiami.com) – The Florida Marlins took the field in Philadelphia Wednesday afternoon to try and snap out of a slump that has the Marlins sinking faster than the Titanic.

Tuesday, the Marlins pitchers gave up 9 runs to the Phillies, while the hitters could only muster 1 for the Fish. Wednesday, the Marlins did a little better by only giving up 8 runs. But, the bats couldn't muster more than 1 run for the second straight game.

And if that's not enough, the Phillies are about to send Roy Halladay to the mound against Anibal Sanchez in the second game of a twi-night double-header. Halladay will be an All-Star this season and is pitching at a Cy Young pace so far in 2011.

In the early game, Jimmy Rollins of the Phillies hit a 3-run homer while Wilson Valdez had a three-RBI triple to help lead the Phillies to victory.

For the second straight game, the Marlins starting pitcher made it through only three innings of work while leading the Marlins to their fifth straight loss.

The Phillies are a season-high 16 games over .500 at 42-26 -- the best record in baseball.

If the Marlins lose again in the second game of the double header, and the Washington Nationals win; the Florida Marlins will be all alone in last place in the NL East.
