Marlins & Heat Provide Thanksgiving Meals To Some Families In Need

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Thanksgiving may be next weekend, but some local sports teams are reaching out to give families-in-need food for the table.

The Miami Marlins hosted a Thanksgiving Meal Distribution at Marlins Park Friday.

The families, chosen by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami Badia, and Pepsi based on financial need, were given a turkey by Billy the Marlin and his player friends.

Invitees received a turkey, fixings and desserts all to be enjoyed as a Thanksgiving meal.

Apparently the Marlins aren't the only team feeling the Thanksgiving spirit by helping those in need, the Miami Heat, on Friday, hosted their 22nd annual Thanksgiving celebration.

The three-time champs, along with the team's coaches and front office employees, attended the event that was held at the Miami Rescue Mission.

Residents in the area were invited to enjoy the block party carnival, but for a select group of about 600 underprivileged families, the day was extra meaningful as they each received an entire Thanksgiving meal with all the trimming from the Miami Heat, courtesy Florida Blue.

Also, at the event, National Deli provided over 1,000 hot dogs to the community's general public.
