Marlins Fans Upset By Ramirez Trade
MIAMI (CBS4) - Sports fans headed into Marlins Park Wednesday afternoon wondering what the trade of third baseman Hanley Ramirez will mean for the team.
The Hanley trade topic also took over the sports radio airwaves at 790 The Ticket.
"Is this a fire sale? Who's next? Anibal Sanchez gone. Omar Infante gone. Hanley Ramirez gone," said sports show host Eric Reed.
Many listeners who called in said they were upset by the trade.
"Why would you trade away your franchise player, especially for chump change? I mean, why don't you give him every opportunity, why don't you fire the hitting coach," suggested one listener.
Marlins General Manager Mike Hill called in to the show, defending the move.
"Our expectations with the club and the performance that we had hoped just haven't come to fruition," Hill said.
"Hanley wasn't producing so sometimes you've got to bite the bullet and find someone better," said fan Ryan Cook outside Marlins Park.
Cook and his father told CBS4's Natalia Zea that they believe Hanley's reported bad attitude may have sealed his fate.
"They said over and over again, it's Hanley's team, it's Hanley's team, it's Hanley's team and he's not making it his team," said Bill Cook.
Still, other fans, like Rand Stiles, are sad to see Hanley go.
"I don't understand how they're going to continue paying for the stadium when they're trading away their good players."
