Marlins Acquire 1B Carlos Lee In Trade
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Marlins had a desperate need for a first baseman worthy of playing in the Majors. The Marlins addressed the problem by adding aging first baseman Carlos Lee in a trade with the Houston Astros.
The trade sent promising third baseman Matt Dominguez and young pitcher Rob Rasmussen to Houston in the trade for Lee. Houston will pay nearly all of Lee's $9 million salary this season, with Miami only on the hook for $200,000.
Lee is hitting .287 this season with an OPS of .747 and 5 home runs and 29 RBI's. The former All-Star has seen his power numbers decline in recent years, but he's still better than anything the Marlins currently had on the roster.
The Marlins are expected to insert Lee into the starting lineup possibly as early as Thursday or Friday.
