MARGATE (CBSMiami) – Margate Police reunited a baby girl taken in a stolen car with her family Tuesday evening.
It all started at 5:15 p.m. at the U.S. Post Office at 5094 Coconut Creek Parkway in Margate.
The mother stepped into the post office, leaving her 9-month-old child and the car keys in the family BMW.
When she returned, the baby and Beemer were gone.
Margate Police and the Broward Sheriff's Office launched a frantic search.
The cops worked quickly, but it felt like an eternity for the child's mother.
Officers located the car electronically, swarming to the crime at an apartment complex near the Florida Turnpike and McNab Road.
The carjacker was long gone, making it just three miles away from the post office.
Chopper4 captured as mom, dad and baby were reunited.
No names on those involved, though they were wearing military fatigues. A member of the military appeared to escort them out of the complex as the carjacked BMW was towed away to be processed by crime technicians.
"I do not know how people think. That lady you know. They remember to take their pocket books but not the kids," a witness said.
