Marco Rubio Travels To Libya
MIAMI (CBS4) – U.S. Senator Marco Rubio along with three other Republican senators are traveling to Libya to meet with the country's new leaders in Tripoli.
After their arrival on Thursday, they'll meet with members of the National Transitional Council, which is now governing the country. They also planned to tour Martyrs' Square.
The three other senators accompanying Rubio are John McCain of Arizona, Mark Kirk of Illinois and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina. It's the highest profile U.S. delegation to visit Libya since the ouster of Moammar Gadhafi last month.
McCain, one of the first lawmakers to call for U.S. support for anti-Gadhafi forces, visited the rebel stronghold of Benghazi in April.
Leaders of Britain, France and Turkey have traveled to Libya in recent weeks. U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Jeffrey Feltman also has visited Benghazi.
