Marathon Woman Killed In House Fire
MARATHON (CBS4) - A Marathon woman was killed, her husband seriously injured, when a fire ripped through their two-story home.
Ernest Pratt, 46, said he woke to the sounds of his home's smoke alarms shortly after midnight last Thursday and found his back porch on fire. He said glass doors leading to the porch then exploded, the heated shattering glass burning his back. Pratt tried to get his wife out but was forced to flee when the flames and smoke became too much. Firefighters found his Pratt's wife, 50-year old Nancy, on the second floor but were unable to revive her.
Pratt was originally taken to Fishermen's Hospital but was then transferred to a hospital in Miami for respiratory injuries.
Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire.
