Mannix: Dwyane Wade Situation 'Like Derek Jeter With the Yankees'
"At this point, Dwyane Wade is like Derek Jeter with the Yankees," Chris Mannix said on the Joe Rose Show. "He's far more valuable to the team that he's with than another team he might go to in the future. Another team is not going to pay Dwyane Wade north of $10 million per year, $15 million per year, to play 60 games for them and run the risk that at some point in the next few years his knee might deteriorate to the point where he's a fraction of his current self. Miami, they don't want to see that either but I think they're more likely to roll the dice because of what Dwyane Wade has meant to that franchise.
I've thought throughout this process that it's just a lot of posturing on both sides. I believe Dwyane when he says I don't know what he's gonna do but I also believe that deep down he wants to come back to Miami and finish his career here. This is not a ring chaser, he's got three rings. Right now, what Dwyane wants is the most money."
