Manning Meets With Broncos Officials
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Peyton Manning is in Denver, Colorado to discuss possibly joining the Broncos as the team's starting quarterback.
Manning and the team's private plane first picked up the Broncos brass in Stillwater, Oklahoma Friday for Oklahoma State University's pro day, where they scouted quarterback Brandon Weeden and wide receiver Justin Blackmon.
Weeden, 28, could be an intriguing prospect to learn behind Manning for a year or two and then have a 7-8 year run in Denver.
The Broncos already have former Florida Gators legend Tim Tebow as the team's starting quarterback. But, Broncos president John Elway has never been a fan of Tebow's and would jump at the opportunity to replace him.
According to the Denver Post, Manning has been cleared to throw by his neck specialist, Dr. Robert Watkins.
This could confirm a small piece of video that appeared on YouTube about a week or so ago that showed a player throwing the football in the exact manner Peyton throws the football.
It's widely believed that Manning will be choosing from among the following teams: Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos, and the Arizona Cardinals.
CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero reported Friday that it will likely come down to a choice between the Dolphins and Cardinals.
Manning would likely not want to have a part in a big quarterback controversy that would erupt in Denver if he chose the Broncos.
But, the Broncos were a playoff team last year and with $50 million in salary cap space, they could put a lot of solid parts around Manning starting this year.
