Manhunt In Hialeah After Shots Fired
MIAMI (CBS4) - Shots were fired after officers in Hialeah pulled over a vehicle suspected of being stolen, police said Friday night.
The traffic stop occurred on East 8 Ave. at SW 25th Street right next to Hialeah Hospital at around 6:45 p.m.
When the officers approached the minivan, shots were fired, police said.
As of 10:30 Friday night, investigators had not released whether the officers fired their weapons or if they were fired upon.
No cops were hurt, according to Hialeah Police Sgt. Eddie Rodriguez.
After the shots were fired, the driver of the minivan sped away, turning on E 27 Street before crashing in to two other occupied vehicles near E 5th Ave, Sgt. Rodriguez explained.
The person or people inside the van then bailed out and ran away.
A search ensued which included the SWAT Team, K-9 officers and a police chopper. The Miami-Dade Police Dept. assisted in the search, Rodriguez said.
Earlier this week, Hialeah officers were on hand to back-up Miami-Dade cops during a shootout and massive search in Southwest Miami-Dade Tuesday night.
"It's another day on the job," Sgt. Rodriguez explained. "That's why officers are always active and they're always protecting themselves. This is definitely a very dangerous profession, but it's something that we do."
As of Friday night, police had not released a description of the person or people they are looking for.
