Manatee Released Back Into The Wild Off Islamorada

ISLAMORADA (CBSMiami/AP) — The first of three injured manatees which were nursed back to health at the Miami Seaquarium has been released back into the wild off Islamorada.

Two of the manatees were treated for lacerations caused by boat propellers in two different Florida locations.

Jasmine was named for the street adjacent to a canal in a Florida Keys neighborhood where she was captured in mid-March.

The Keys-based Dolphin Research Center and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission helped with "Jasmine's" capture and Tuesday's release.

A mother and calf recovered from a Palm Bay waterway in May were being transported back to Palm Bay Tuesday, as well.

The mother was struck by a boat, and while the calf was not injured.  An FWC official said it accompanied the parent to ensure its survival.
