"Stanley" The Dachshund Puppy Stolen From Pines Pet Store

PEMBROKE PINES (CBSMiami) – A pet store in Pembroke Pines is putting out a photo Tuesday of a missing two-month-old Dachshund puppy named Stanley.
The stolen puppy is not only cute, he's also valuable--his price tag is $1,400.
On Memorial Day, a crook walked into Petland in Pembroke Pines and just walked off with Stanley.
"I guess he just figured that it was so busy nobody was really paying attention to the door so he just took advantage of that and walked out," said store employee Alexa Hernandez.
The man walked into the store, looked around as if he was a customer and asked to play with Stanley. While in the play pen, he asked the store clerk for information. When the clerk left, so did he.
"He just took advantage of the fact that she went to the back to check on some information for him and he just walked out," Hernandez said. "That guy knew what he was doing."

It appears the man had an accomplice as well.
Surveillance video shows, as the man was leaving, another man in the store walks out right in front of him and walks away in the same direction.
"These animals are our babies," Hernandez said. "We take care of them until they find homes. To see one that is two month old, equivalent to a newborn child, just leave the store, not even have a bag of food, anything for the puppy, it's very heartbreaking."
Stanley isn't the first pup-snatching at Petland. In November, another dog was snatched.
For animal lovers, like Daniella and Brandon who were in the store looking for a dog, said thefts like these are disturbing as they wonder what happens to the animals that are taken, not for pets, but for illegal profits.
"That's awful" Daniella Londonop said. "They need a home. Chances are they don't have a good one if they're being taken like that."
