Man Suspected In Nursery Robbery Behind Bars
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A Ft. Lauderdale area man who reportedly shot a man after robbing him is behind bars in Broward.
The robbery took place last Wednesday at the Q. Mitchell Nursery at 28th Sunrise Boulevard near NW 28th Terrace. Fabian Montero, 41, and Richard Dorsey, 43, had gone there around 11 a.m. to buy sand.
That's when Maurice Ross, 31, approached them and demanded their cash and belongings. Dorsey ran off, but Montero stayed and hand over his wallet and cell phone. For some reason Ross then allegedly shot him in the leg. Montero remains hospitalized.
On Friday, the sheriff's office released a surveillance photo of the armed man's black pickup and a composite sketch of his face.
That same day, while canvassing the neighborhood around Q. Mitchell Nursery, a detective noticed a black Chevrolet pickup that looked like the one in the surveillance photo parked in a driveway about four blocks west of the nursery. The man who lived there looked remarkably like the composite sketch.
Both Montero and Dorsey identified Ross as the man who robbed them. Ross has been charged with attempted murder, robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault with a firearm and driving with a suspended license.
