Man Dies After Miami Laundromat Shooting
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A shooting outside a Miami laundromat Sunday has taken a deadly turn.
And how Police homicide detectives are studying surveillance tape from that laundromat and a neighboring
florist to see if their surveillance cameras captured the killers or their car.
A man who was shot once in the abdomen during a robbery attempt on Northwest 17th avenue and 16th Terrace has died, according to CBS4 sources.
One of the owners of the laundromat told CBS4's Peter D'Oench that he was saddened. He said the victim was a regular customer who going to the laundromat for about a year. He said he thought the victim was a mechanic who worked in an automotive shop.
Witnesses said the man, who appeared to be in his 50s, put his clothes in a washer at the El Tio Coin Laundry around 7 p.m. He then walked to his pickup truck across the street and was jumped by three men.
"I saw him with a gun in the hand and I said to my sister go inside he has a gun go inside," said Maria Valdez.
"One of them had him grabbed and the other was trying to take chains away from him," said witness Maria Delosangeles. "He wasn't putting up a fight, he couldn't put up a fight."
Police say the suspects tried to rip a gold chain from the man's neck and during the struggle fired one shot.
"I saw the blood, I saw the hole from the bullet it was big," said Irene Baez who works at the laundromat and tried to help the man.
Detectives are still searching for three suspects. Surveillance video from a nearby business shows a dark colored sedan parked and then drive off just moments after the murder. Witnesses told CBS4 the killer and his cohorts took off in a blue car. A short time later the video shows a police car arrive.
