MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Police say a man was shot inside a stairwell next to a Whole Foods in Downtown Miami.
They say it may have been a business transaction that went terribly wrong.
City of Miami Police responded to the store at 299 Southeast 3rd Avenue to check out reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot and another who claimed he was the gunman.
"Somewhere along the way there were some shots fired," said Miami Police commander Freddie Cruz. "At least three men ran in different directions. Then three blocks west, we did find a bag with some belongings."
Police say the man that was shot was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
An eyewitness spoke to CBS4's Amber Diaz in an exclusive interview.
"When I was walking across the street we were going in the same direction," said Edwin, who didn't want his last name used.
He says he came face to face with the shooter as he was walking back to work.
"As I'm walking across the street somebody came out that side door of the Whole Foods with a gun," Edwin said. "A gentleman with his shirt off pointing [a gun] and another black male was shot about four times and as soon as I saw the gun I started running."
While it hasn't been confirmed by police, witnesses tell CBS4 that a black Honda at the scene, an Uber vehicle, was driving by with passengers inside when it was hit by a bullet.
"As you can understand its one o'clock in the afternoon in Downtown Miami, lots of traffic and again it's a puzzle were putting together," said Cruz.
Police say they have everyone they believe was involved however, no one has been arrested at this time.
