Man Shot In Stomach During Miami Robbery
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Police detectives are searching for two robbers who forced a Miami man and his female companion to remove their clothing and then cruelly shot the man in the stomach.
Now the loved ones of that victim, Elmor Williams, are speaking out.
"Right now there is a lot going on and we are trying to get to the bottom of it right now," said one of Williams's cousins. He spoke with CBS4's Peter D'Oench as he was visiting his cousin inside the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
"He got shot this morning and I got a call he was out fishing with a friend girl and some people ambushed him," the cousin told D'Oench. He declined to give his name but said he was very concerned about the senselessness of the shooting and the humiliation experienced by both victims who had to shed their clothing.
"It's crazy," he said. "It is crazy what is going on in Miami. He just got out of surgery. He's alright but he's having a lot of complications and needs reconstruction on his stomach. He is just recovering. He can't breathe on his own. He also can't talk. He has a tube down his mouth. I don't know where the girl who was with him is at. She seems to have disappeared. We can't find her."
The shooting happened on Northeast 31st near Biscayne Bay by Northeast 7th Avenue.
Willie Troutman said he tried to help the female victim who he knows when she ran for help to a nearby Walgreens store on Northeast 31st Street at Biscayne Boulevard.
"She was very hysterical," he said. "I mean she was breathing very heavy. She was scared. She was very scared."
Troutman said she told him what happened.
"She came to me and said I need help. My boyfriend has just been shot and robbed," said Troutman. "It started when the two men walked past them and asked if they could sit by them and chill and they said yes."
"She said one of the guys pulled out a gun and pointed it at the guy's head and told him to give me everything you got and the man said he didn't have anything," said Troutman. "They took his pants and threw them in the water. Then they shot him in the stomach and left."
They also forced the female to strip.
"Her clothes were ripped," said Troutman. "Her clothes were torn. She said they asked me to take my clothes off. It was a very shocking moment. But I tried to stay calm. I tried to stay as calm as possible and get help for them. That's all."
Williams' cousin said he hopes to find the female victim so he can speak with her.
Miami Police have not identified her or released a description of the two robbers.
