Man Sentenced For Concealing Jewelry During Rothstein Investigation
WEST PALM BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) — It will be 10 months in prison for a South Florida man after pleading guilty to charges that he helped conceal jewelry from investigators seizing assets in ex-lawyer Scott Rothstein's $1.2 billion Ponzi scheme.
The sentence was imposed by a federal judge in West Palm Beach Friday on 52-year-old Eddy Marin of Davie. Marin also will be placed on a year's probation.
Court documents show that Marin helped Rothstein's wife Kim and others hide jewelry, watches and other items worth over $1 million from investigators. Kimberly Rothstein and a friend tried to sell some of the jewelry.
Marin also admitted committing perjury in bankruptcy proceedings regarding Rothstein's law firm.
Rothstein is serving a 50-year prison sentence for the scam involving investments in phony legal settlements. Kim Rothstein is serving 18 months for concealing jewelry.
