Man Posed As FPL Worker In Burglary Scam
MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) – Police have released a sketch of a man they say posed as a Florida Power and Light employee in a burglary scam on Miami Beach.
On September 28th, the man, described as being in his early to mid-20s, knocked on the door of a home in the 5300 block of Alton Road. A house keeper, identified as Maria Carroll, answered the door and was told by the man that he was from FPL and needed to check the power lines in the back yard.
Carroll noted that there was red vehicle in the driveway.
When she went out the rear door to the backyard to check on him, Carroll found the man talking on a radio. She would later tell police that something didn't feel quite right so she went back in the house and locked the rear door. That's when she heard noises from inside the house and noticed the front door was unlocked and slightly open. When she looked out, she saw the man drive off in the red vehicle.
Looking around, Carroll then found a pillow case on the floor which had several pieces of silverware inside.
She then notified the home's owner and called police.
Carroll described the man as being either Italian or Spanish, about 5'4" and between 130 and 135 pounds.
Anyone with information on the man is urged to call Detective Spina Taylor at (305) 673-7776 ext. 5543 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471 TIPS (8477).
