Man Pistol Whipped During SW Dade Home Invasion
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A southwest Miami-Dade man was pistol whipped during an early morning home invasion.
It happened around 2:15 a.m. at 11245 SW 173rd Terrace.
Four men, armed with a gun, a machete and pepper spray, forced their way inside a shed behind a home where they encountered 20-year old Eduardo Martinez, according to police.
They repeatedly hit Martinez with the gun and pepper sprayed him as they to demanded cash and drugs.
"I was at gunpoint, they hit me in the head with the gun a couple of times," said Martinez who added that he didn't have time to react, "I can't believe it. It just happened to quick."
Martinez's stepfather, 45-year old Luis Santos, heard the noise and went to see what was going on. As he approached the shed, he was met at gun point by the men who pushed him to the ground as they made their way to the house.
They shattered the rear sliding glass door and ran inside. Martinez's mother, 39-year old Idrania Morales, and her son, 11-year old Samir Santos, heard the noise and hid.
"Me and my mom were sleeping and I heard the noise coming out," said Samir Santos.
Samir said they hid inside a crawl space underneath the air conditioning unit.
"There are little holes so I could see a little bit, but not much," said Santos. "I saw people's shoes. The bad peoples shoes. Could you. Hear them? They were saying, find the girl."
Santos admitted that he was a little scared.
The men eventually left empty handed.
Some neighbors woke to the sound of police radios and flashing lights from their cruisers.
"Well there seems to be a lot people over at that house, some young people, so I don't know," said neighbor Earl Dalberry. "I'm not too surprised about it. It's a quiet neighborhood and that's the only rowdy house in the neighborhood."
Dalberry said there have been a few car break-ins but never anything on this scale.
