Man Killed By Police In Front Of Westchester Home
WESTCHESTER (CBS4) – An investigation is underway after Miami-Dade police shot and killed a man Monday night in front of a Westchester home.
It happened around 8:30 p.m. when officers attempted to serve a probable cause arrest warrant on Henry Patterson at a home in the 7800 block of SW 34th Terrace for aggravated stalking.
When they went to serve the warrant, there was a confrontation and police shot Patterson, according to police spokesman Detective Roy Rutland. Rutland says another male was in the home at the time, and they interviewed him.
Neighbors said they've seen police at the house multiple times. One neighbor told CBS4's Natalia Zea that about a year ago police surrounded the home with guns drawn.
"I know cops were here before at that property to make an arrest and this didn't happen, but this time it got more serious," said Daniel Fernandez.
Roxana Rivera said she was alarmed to hear gunfire in the normally peaceful neighborhood.
"We heard four shots and we heard the helicopter and we thought something's going on this is not usual," she said.
Tuesday morning four people came to the home to take away some belongings, including the car that neighbors said belonged to Patterson. A woman who identified herself only as "Myrna" told Zea the man police detectives shot was her ex-husband and the father of her teenage son.
She was tight-lipped about his death, but Myrna said he didn't deserve to be shot and that police may have gone too far.
"(He was a) very nice individual and I can't say any more," said "Myrna".
Neighbors said the teenage son was the only other person who would stay in the home. No word if he saw police shoot his father.
