Man Shot During Home Invasion In Coconut Grove
COCONUT GROVE (CBSMiami) – A man was shot in the stomach during a home invasion robbery in Coconut Grove early Saturday morning, police said.
The shooting happened at a gated home along Margaret Street off Percival Avenue just before 3 a.m., according to neighbors.
Miami police confirmed a man and woman were inside the house when two men with guns stormed in.
Before the intruders made their getaway, shots were fired.
The man who lives at the home was critically hurt, according to police.
Neighbors said they woke up in the middle of the night to find flashing lights all over their street.
"(I) wasn't exactly sure what was going on, but when more than one police car shows up at a time, there's something going on," neighbor Skip Ryder said.
The victim was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
A woman stood by as he was removed from the ambulance and wheeled into the trauma center.
Neighbors said they don't know much about the victims.
"They just moved in not too long ago. A couple months, maybe," Lisa Ellis said.
Just hours after the shooting, new neighbors moved in next door to the crime scene, unaware of what had happened just a few feet away.
Ryder said he moved to that particular area of the Grove because he thought it was safer than others.
Now he fears, he made a mistake.
"This is something that's a little more frightening," Ryder explained.
Ellis said she'll be more vigilant, but said this isn't the first time she's heard of crime in the area.
"It used to be a little more more sketchier," Ellis said. "It's better now."
Police haven't said what was taken from the home.
They are looking for two men, but description details have not been released.
