Man Found Dead In Canal Wanted For Weston Burglary
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4)- A body discovered Sunday floating in a Weston canal has been identified as a Hollywood man wanted for a burglary.
The Broward Sheriff's Office said a golfer at the Weston Hills Golf Club, 2600 Country Club Way, found the body of 24-year old Dauntrae Sturrup.
"They immediately contacted the employees of the Country Club, which in turn called BSO deputies," said BSO spokesperson Keyla Concepcion.
Sheriff's detectives say Sturrup and two other men wanted in connection to a residential burglary that occurred at the Weston Hills community on March 7. The first BSO deputies to arrive at the home in 2700 block of Pinehurst were able to apprehend Jeannot Pierre, 24, immediately apprehended while three others, including Sturrup, fled on foot.
Detectives searched that night and the following day but were unable to find the three men. They had few answers until the discovery of the body on Sunday. BSO detectives believe Sturrup jumped into the canal while trying to escape the scene of the burglary. The Medical Examiner ruled the death an accidental drowning.
