Man Found Clinging To Boat Rescued
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — A man found clinging to his boat has been rescued by a Coast Guard crew off of the Bahamas.
Officials say a tow boat reported hearing a distress call. The tow boat crew says the caller told them he was in the water holding onto his capsized vessel and a handheld radio.
The Coast Guard launched air and sea crews from Miami. The helicopter crew spotted the man Saturday morning and directed the Coast Guard vessel to his location 15 miles west of Bimini, Bahamas.
The rescued man was taken to Miami for medical care.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Roberto Santos says the rescue is "a great example of the importance of having the proper safety equipment onboard your vessel and staying with your vessel if it capsizes."
