Man Dies After Being Thrown Off Car
MIAMI - (CBS4) - A party in Southwest Miami-Dade over the weekend left one man dead and another in jail.
Witnesses told police that about 10 p.m. on May 29th, Juan Perez had been drinking heavily. He later got into an argument with some of the guests at the private party on the 12800 block of Southwest 17th Street and decided to drive off on his 2011 Toyota Yaris.
One of the guests tried to stop him from leaving because he was concerned that Perez was too drunk to drive, according to the Miami-Dade police report.
Perez simply accelerated causing the man to get stuck on the hood of his Yaris, police said. Perez increased his speed to about 40 mph even as the man remained on his hood, police said, and when Perez came to a stop at an intersection it caused the man's body to be thrown about 68 feet away near the intersection of Southwest 127th Court and 16th Street.
The man, whom police did not identify, was pronounced dead on the scene.
Perez, 35, is charged with vehicular manslaughter. He appeared before a bond court judge Tuesday who ordered him held on $7,500 bond and, if he is able to post the bond, he will be held on house arrest with total lockdown.
