Man Dies After Apartment Shooting In Lauderhill
LAUDERHILL (CBS4) - A 35-year-old man died at a local hospital after he was shot Saturday morning at an Olive Tree apartment in Lauderhill.
According to police Brandon Lee of Coral Springs was gunned down just after midnight in front of the apartment building. When police arrived, they discovered that Lee's friends had already taken him to a hospital.
"Originally, his friends took him to Florida Medical Center before he was transferred to Broward General Medical Center, where he succumbed to his wounds," said Lauderhill Police spokesman Capt. Rick Rocco.
A woman, who did not wish to be identified in this report, said she was sitting outside and saw the shooting.
"We can see a young guy was coming from the side," she said. "Then he pulled a gun out, he started running to the table then he pointed a gun on the guy. His name is 'B' then he started shooting him."
The woman said the gunman shot Lee four times as he ran through the parking lot.
"My whole body shook up," she said. "I was really scared so all I had to do was call 911."
Police said Lee had criminal record, but those who knew him said his past has nothing to do with him getting killed.
"Just because he had a criminal record that means it's okay that he got killed," a neighbor said. "That's not right."
Hoping to fight crime, Lauderhill police launched a initiative last year focusing on a two square mile area.
"We come out and we'll do crime assessments, crime prevention assessments, we'll offer them tips on environmental design like lighting or suggestions for fencing…things like that to alleviate potential sources of crime," said Lauderhill police Capt. Rick Rocco.
