Man Claims Domestic Dispute Ignited Anger & Flames
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Officials are investigating a fire that occurred Sunday morning.
According to Battalion Fire Chief Todd Garofolo, the fire was in a home that appeared to be vacant at NW 18 Avenue and NW 67 Street.
Garofolo said the windows were covered with boards.
However, a man claims he suffered minor burns because he was actually inside of the home when a domestic dispute with his girlfriend ignited more than just anger.
According to, Nicholas Gibson, he woke up to his girlfriend pouring gasoline on him and trying to set him on fire. "She put gasoline in every room and the bed I was sleeping in," Gibson said. "On a scale of one to ten, it was a 22."
Gibson claimed he broke off the relationship and his girlfriend was upset.
Investigators are now looking into the circumstances surrounding the fire, but have not commented on how it started.
"When we arrived, nobody was around, no information or the occupants, it wasn't until later on that we found somebody who had burns to the face and said he had a domestic dispute with gasoline involved," said Battalion Chief Garofolo. He requested an investigator look into the fire's origin.
Gibson told reporters he was trapped inside.
"To get out of the house, I had to go and run, I hit the door like boom, and hit the door like boom, and like boom, she trapped me in there, I barely made it out," he said.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, but said it was difficult due to not being able to gain access to the inside of the home easily.
