Man Accused Of Video Voyeurism In FAU Bathrooms
FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A former Florida Atlantic University employee is accused of secretly videotaping men in a restroom on campus and then posting the videos on porn websites.
Seth Thompson, 40, has been charged with 17 counts of video voyeurism.
Thompson, who left the university last August, had been a coordinator of academic support services in the FAU Libraries.
An investigation into video voyeurism on the Boca Raton campus began last June when a student went to FAU police said a 30-second clip which showed him urinating in a restroom had been uploaded to Pornhub.com. The student told police he remembered that there was only one other person in the bathroom at the time and carried a large backpack, according to Thompson's arrest report.
A check of the porn site Pornhub.com found that it had been uploaded by someone who went by the handle "Jerking Bud." Other videos attached to this profile included unknown males urinating, masturbating and a couple having sex in the restroom.
The videos appeared to have been shot either over or under a stall door or partition. Several appeared to have been shot through a one inch peephole in one of the stall's partitions.
A check of several other porn and social sites found that some of these videos had been uploaded to them by "Jerking Bud."
Investigators were able to trace where the videos were uploaded from by using IP addresses. They reportedly came back to residence in North Lake Worth where Thompson shared with another person.
When police went to serve a warrant to search the home and question Thompson on Aug. 1th, he allegedly waived his rights and spoke with investigators.
According to his arrest report, Thompson admitted to shooting the videos on his iPhone and posting them online for the gratification of others. He reportedly said he would upload the videos to the various sites from his cell phone or from his FAU issued laptop computer.
Arrested Tuesday, Thompson was released later in the day after bail was set at $51,000.
Students at the University told CBS4' s Joan Murray they they are stunned.
"It's shocking. I hope other employees aren't like that," said junior Karam Atli.
Another student, Steven Galeano, said, "It's a violation of privacy. It would hurt me mentally."
