Man Charged With Email Bomb Threat Of Monroe Sheriff Offices
MIRAMAR (CBSMiami) – The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said Saturday a Tavernier man who was arrested earlier in the week was charged Friday with making email threats to blow up substations and threatening to kill or injure a detective sergeant.
According to MCSO, Cole Peacock, 21, was set to be charged with falsely obtaining a credit card from Citibank, charging a large amount on the card and then paying Citibank with fraudulent checks. As detectives prepared to make the arrest, Peacock was told by his defense attorney he would be arrested.
Then on Wednesday evening, Detective Sergeant Dave Carey, who was working on the case, began receiving email threats that said things like "death death you will die." A total of 78 such emails were sent to Det. Sgt. Carey.
According to MCSO, Peacock was charged with computer crimes in February and at the time showed detectives how he could "spoof" Sheriff's office emails making the emails look like they came from an internal source.
Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Peacock on Thursday evening. During the arrest, he allegedly stabbed himself in the neck with an EpiPen and then struggled with the officers.
Investigators said the IP address which created the threatening emails belonged to a modem in the Peacock's home, which was in the same room Peacock had been in and out of most of the day, according to his father.
Peacock was charged with four counts making false reports of planting a bomb, explosive or weapon of mass destruction against state owned property and 10 counts written threats to kill or do bodily injury. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is also involved in investigating the case and may bring federal charges against Peacock in the future as well.
