Man Charged In Strangling Death At Dunkin' Donuts In Davie
DAVIE (CBSMiami/Sentinel) – A war of words at a Dunkin' Donuts in Davie left one man dead and another facing murder charges.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports Joni Donley, 28, and David Grant, 48, got into a verbal altercation shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday at the Dunkin' Donuts in the 5100 block of South University Drive. The fight spilled over to the patio when Grant allegedly used a racial slur, according to a Davie police report.
The report states Donley then kicked Grant and strangled him until he went unconscious. Donley fled the scene in his four-door, beige Nissan. As he fled, a witness took down Donley's license plate number.
That key piece of information led police to Donley's Pembroke Pines home Wednesday, where police saw Donley wearing the same clothes seen in the surveillance video that captured the fight.
The 28-year-old man told police, "He constantly provoked me and called me the N-word."
Donley was ordered held without bond Thursday.
