Man Charged In Davie Home Invasion
DAVIE (CBSMiami) – A burglary suspect who apparently thought he had found the perfect home to break into thought wrong after he discovered it was far from empty.
After breaking a window in the rear bedroom of a home in the 7400 block of Silverado Circle, 30-year old Loufkens Bredy made his way inside and was then surprised to find he was not alone, according to Davie police. Also inside the house were two children who lived there.
"There was this guy at more doorway and he just looked at me surprised that I was home because he was coming in to rob an empty house, or he thought," said Wesley Chau, 15.
Using lengths of rubber tubing he found inside the house, Bredy reportedly began to tie up the children. It was at this time, a neighbor noticed a strange car parked next door to the residence and decided to go see what was going on.
When the neighbor knocked on the door, Bredy allegedly told one of the boys to go find out who it was. Police say when he got to the door he told the neighbor what was going on.
"I told him we are getting robbed so call the cops and don't do anything because he says he has a weapon," said Kelvin Chau, 12. "I went back into the house because my brother was there. I didn't want to leave him."
Hearing this, Bredy reportedly bolted out of a rear sliding glass door to his car, got in and drove off. But not before the eagle-eyed neighbor wrote down his license plate number. Bredy allegedly stole $63 in cash, a cell phone and an iPod Touch.
"If the neighbor didn't come he could have taken more or he could have taken our lives," said Kelvin Chau.
Police tracked the car to a residence in Miami-Dade.
Bredy was taken into custody by Davie officers and during questioning reportedly confessed to breaking into the home. Bredy has been charged with one count each of home invasion without a firearm and kidnapping.
