Man Arrested In Fatal Coral Gables Crash
MIAMI (CBSMiami) –The man who slammed his car into a stopped car in Coral Gables on June 9th, killing the two people inside, was under the influence at the time of the crash, according to the results of toxicology tests.
On June 9th, Ervens Prudent, around 1:20 AM, was travelling at a high rate of speed and rear-ended a Toyota Corolla, killing Sweetwater residents Maria Martinez, 44, and Marlon Gutierrez, 34, on the scene of the accident, according to reports.
The accident occurred when the victim's vehicle was stopped at a red light on 8th Street and 37th Avenue in Miami.
It was determined, through toxicology reports, that Prudent, 26, was driving under the influence of alcohol.
After the discovery, on Friday night, officers from the Traffic Homicide Unit obtained an arrest warrant for Prudent, according to Coral Gables Police Department.
Prudent, still recovering from injuries in Jackson Memorial Hospital, was placed into custody Friday night at the hospital and will be transported to Dade County Jail once discharged.
