Weston Man Arrested In Deadly Bar Brawl Investigation
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- Police have arrested a man in connection to a deadly brawl at a Fort Lauderdale bar.
Police arrested Gregory Burns, 52, a Weston resident, on April 9th.
According to police, on the night of August 31, 2012, two patrons inside the Elbo Room bar, at 241 South Atlantic Boulevard, began to argue verbally.
A bouncer at the bar approached Burns who allegedly caused the disturbance and asked him to leave. When Burns was being escorted out, a physical altercation ensued between him and the bouncer identified as Cristian Nunez. Police said at some point during the altercation, Burns allegedly shot Nunez in the abdomen.
Off duty officers in the bar at the time took the burns into custody and recovered the firearm.
Police arrested Burns after finding out that Nunez had died due injuries sustained in the 2012 altercation.
Burns was originally charged with one count of aggravated battery with a firearm but the charge has been changed to manslaughter.
According to police, Burns voluntarily turned himself in after he was notified of the charge.
