Man Arrested For Being Deadbeat Dad Now Indicted For 1997 Slaying
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A man arrested for failure to pay child support is now connected to a much a greater crime.
Samuel David Washington, 43, was indicted by a Broward County grand jury Thursday for the 1997 killing of Darrial Rollins, 36, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
"This is just an example of you don't give up," Lt. Frank Sousa, a spokesman for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, told the paper on Thursday. "This is the side of police work that people don't ever see. No one ever stopped, they kept going."
Rollins was found strangled and stabbed in a room she had been renting in a boarding house in the 1000 block of Sistrunk Boulevard. Police believe Rollins was killed about three days before the discovery of her body on May 6, 1997, Sousa said.
Washington is a lifelong Fort Lauderdale resident, Sousa said, with a criminal history of minor offenses.
