Man Allegedly Admits Breaking Into Hundreds Of Cars In 4 Months
CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) -- Law enforcement officials arrested a Fort Lauderdale man who allegedly admitted to breaking into more than 200 cars in the last four months.
Officials arrested David Lee Jasinski, 26, on Friday morning in Coral Springs.
The arrest was a result of a joint operation between Broward Sheriff's Office Burglary Apprehension Team and Coral Springs Police Department's Burglary Enforcement and Reduction team.
"We've heard he's done as many as 20-30 cars a night, several times a week," said BSO Detective Craig Brown. "He traveled across the county to target a neighborhood."
On Thursday, detectives got a tip about a man who allegedly made a living out of breaking into cars.
Investigators conducted surveillance of Jasinki's property in Fort Lauderdale following the tip.
Detectives said they followed him and saw him drive to the Savannah at Riverside condominiums in Coral Springs, park his car then return moments later to put something inside before leaving again.
Four hours later, police say, he returned to the car carrying a duffel bag.
Investigators conducted a traffic stop. Jasinski allegedly tried to get away but he was eventually trapped and taken into custody.
While he was questioned, detectives said, Jansinski, admitted to breaking into more than 200 cars in the last four months in Fort Lauderdale and Coral Springs.
BSO says Ray Rodriguez is one of Jasinski's victims. Rodriguez learned Friday that detectives say breaking into cars was Jasinski's job.
"Seems like he needs to get a better job," Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez says Jasinski got an iPad, some sunglasses and other items from the family's cars. Rodriguez says they usually lock their car doors but failed to on Thursday night. He says they will never make that mistake again.
"You can't be too careful or anything you should make sure you have everything locked," Rodriguez said.
Jasinski had just been released on bond from an April 2nd arrest in Wilton Manors for the same crime.
His criminal history dates back to 2004.
