Man Accused Of Killing Teenage Girlfriend Arrested

MIAMI (CBS4) – An 18-year-old man, wanted for the murder of his 16-year-old girlfriend, has been arrested in Miami, just one day after her family made a tearful plea to the public for help to find the suspect.

Jay Benjamin Thomas Stubbs was arrested early Wednesday morning and booked into jail on a charge of second-degree murder.

Police say an argument between Stubbs and his girlfriend, Tracy Gabriel, escalated into violence on Monday night at a Miami apartment on the 1500 block of NW 1st Place. During the argument, police say, Stubbs pulled out a gun and shot her.

Police say the couple had been dating for about six months. According to a police report, Stubbs later expressed regret over the killing. Police say he sent a text message to Tracy's sister Amadonne including one that read: "I did not mean to kill your sister but f--- you I aint worried scared of nothing tell them to come for me. I am ready. I am ready to die and I am killing anybody and anything that moves. Tracy was a mistake but the next wont be."

"It's really hard to tell my 4-year-old that her aunt is not going to be here no more to take her to the store, and it hurts," said Amadonne Gabriel, Tracy's sister. "I lost a sister, and a nephew lost a mom," Amadonne said. "That was my only sister, it hurts and I want justice."

Gabriel leaves behind a 4-month old boy.

Amadonne told police that Tracy had recently confided in her saying she was pregnant and that Stubbs was the father, according to the police report.

Stubbs appeared before a bond court judge Wednesday afternoon. His case was reset for a probable cause hearing to be held Thursday morning. He is charged with second-degree murder and remains held without bond.
