Man Accused Of Having Sex With Dog, Stabbing It To Death
CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) — A 29-year-old man is accused of having sex with the family dog, then stabbing it to death and slicing its throat.
Michael Haimes is charged with sexual conduct with an animal and causing the cruel death, pain and suffering of an animal, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
On Monday, Haimes had sex with the dog at his residence along the 5300 block of East Leitner Drive, according to a police report.
After he finished having sex with the dog, Haimes repeatedly stabbed the dog's body and sliced its throat, police said.
Then, on Tuesday, police received a "mental illness call" and went to Haimes' home.
When they arrived, police noted the odor of a decomposing body.
A wooded area south of Haimes' home was where investigators found a blue leash and the white, furry dog's corpse, the report said.
Haimes admitted during an interview with detectives that the dog was on his bed shortly before the alleged sex act, according to the report.
At his first court appearance Wednesday in front of Broward County Judge John "Jay" Hurley, Haimes said he has lived in Broward County for 23 years and is currently unemployed.
Hurley set bond at $50,000 for each of the charges against Haimes.
The judge also ordered him to wear an ankle monitor and not to have contact with any animals should he make bond and be released from jail.
"The court is concerned with what appears to be absolutely just spontaneous, unforeseen, inappropriate violence to an animal," Hurley said. "The court lacks confidence in the defendant's ability to control his own behavior."
Haimes was also ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
