Man Accused In Murder For Hire Plot Serving Time
MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A man accused of hiring a hit man to kill his family is now serving time after his case was closed.
Jason Simione, 40, was sentenced to Florida State Prison for two years followed by community control.
According to the State Attorney's Office, on February 10, the state dropped three counts of solicitation to commit murder and culpable negligence. Simione plead no contest to making a destructive device.
He was arrested August 12th, 2013.
Prosecutors said Simione's life started to unravel in July when his wife, Megumi Simione told him she wanted a divorce. After that they said that Simione tried to hire a hitman to kill his wife, baby son, and his mother-in-law.
His wife told authorities he was abusing steroids and it was making him paranoid, delusional and violent.
After spending 15 years as a firefighter paramedic, Simione said at a hearing in September, he started Bulldog Equipment, a business which contracts with the Federal Government to provide ammunition for the U.S. military.
Simione's massive gun and ammunition collection was seized from his Dania Beach home. He had dozens of rifles, handguns and stacks of ammunition.
Simione is scheduled to be released on August 2, 2015 but the date may change after a gain time award, gain time forfeiture, or a review.
