Major Changes For Commuters On SR 836
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The major traffic lane changes to State Road 836 started this weekend, but with Monday a holiday for some, drivers returning to work Tuesday may find themselves confused on their usual route.
On Sunday, February 16, a new traffic pattern was implemented for westbound SR 836 drivers continuing west after NW 57 Avenue or traveling to SR 826.
For westbound drivers approaching the Palmetto, traffic patterns are completely opposite--and it's caught many drivers off-guard. everything has changed.
"It's pretty confusing, it's like you don't know where to go," said driver Gus Castro. "You don't know if you have to make a left or make a right. I got lost actually."
Oscar Gonzalez, from Florida Department of Transportation, wants drivers to be aware of the changes.
"This is going to impact everyone who gets on west bound on the dolphin that travels past 57th ave," said Gonzalez.
The biggest change is approaching the Palmetto interchange where the traffic pattern has basically flipped. Drivers that want to continue westbound on the Dolphin, you have to get into the right-hand lanes. Drivers heading to the Palmetto, will stay in the left-hand lanes.
"If you made a mistake and wanted to go westbound, use the northbound 826 exit and then you can get onto west bound 836 as we're doing here," explained Gonzalez.
Drivers on westbound SR 836 continuing west, exiting at NW 72 Avenue or West Flagler Street will need to stay on the right three lanes after passing NW 57 Avenue.
Drivers on westbound SR 836 wanting to go to SR 826 north or south beyond West Flagler Street will need to exit using the left two lanes after passing NW 57 Avenue.
Drivers on NW 72 Avenue wanting to go west on SR 836 or SR 826 north or south will need to access the entrance ramps by going west on NW 11 Street.
Westbound drivers on SR 836 exiting at NW 12 Street/NW 87 Avenue will be guided to a new ramp that lines up with NW 84 Avenue at NW 12 Street.
