MacArthur Causeway/I-395, I-95 And Las Olas Closures
MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) – Several locations in South Florida will see road closures Monday night.
At 10 p.m., one eastbound lane on I-395/MacArthur Causeway Bridge from 200 feet west of I-395 to Biscayne Boulevard off ramp will be closed followed with the full eastbound closure between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.
Drivers trying to get to Miami Beach during the closure will be detoured via I-395 eastbound to Biscayne Boulevard off ramp to I-195 eastbound (Julia Tuttle). All westbound lanes will remain open at all times.
The lanes will reopen Tuesday at 5 a.m.
According to FDOT, the full lane closure is necessary for safety reasons while they put up a sign structure and panels for the PortMiami Tunnel project.
Scheduled to open to traffic on May 2014, the $1.2 billion project will provide a direct access between the Seaport, I-395 and I-95 by creating another access to PortMiami besides the Port Bridge, which is currently the only connection to the mainland.
In Fort Lauderdale, Las Olas Boulevard Bridge is scheduled to close for construction beginning at 9 p.m. Monday night to 6 a.m. Tuesday for repair work.
Beginning Tuesday morning, all northbound lanes on Interstate 95 will be closed between NW 2nd Street and NW 7th Street between 12 a.m. to 5 a.m.
One lane will close at 10 p.m. and another at 11 p.m. Monday night leading up to the construction. The on-ramp from North Miami Avenue to I-95 will also be closed.
Northbound drivers on I-95 can:
- Exit at NW 2nd Street/NW 3 Avenue and go straight to on-ramp at NW 8 Street/NW 3 Avenue to re-enter I-95 northbound.
- Access 836 Westbound / Miami International Airport by exiting at NW 2nd Street/NW 3rd Avenue, head north and turn right on NW 5th Street, continue to NE 1st Avenue, turn north to I-395 Expressway.
- Access beaches by exiting at NW 2 Street/NW 3rd Avenue and take NW 5th Street to
Biscayne Boulevard, turn north and take I-395/MacArthur eastbound on-ramp.
Drivers on North Miami Avenue to I-95 Northbound/Airport/SR-836 Westbound and NE 2 Avenue between SE 2 Street and SE 3 Street will be detoured to:
- Take NE 1 Avenue and head north to I-395 Expressway
The closure will allow the contractor to remove the overhead sign.
In Fort Lauderdale, Las Olas Boulevard Bridge is scheduled to close for construction beginning at 9 p.m. Monday night to 6 a.m. Tuesday for repair work.
