M-D Fire Rescue Supplies 180 Turkeys To Needy Senior Citizens
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — Needy senior citizens will not go hungry this Thanksgiving, thanks to firefighters with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
Hosted by firefighters from the Fontainebleau and Sweetwater fire stations and held at the Jorge Mas Canosa Youth Center, the giveaway supplied 180 turkeys to the elderly community Saturday. Winn Dixie Supermarkets, Medical Priority Pharmacy and the City of Sweetwater pitched in their support.
For the second year in a row, a portion of the money used to purchase the turkeys was donated by district firefighters, according to a statement from the city.
