Lynn U. Student Lives On Through Haiti Orphanage
BOCA RATON (CBS4) --Britney Gengel, a Lynn University student who lost her life during the Jan. 12th Haitian earthquake will be remembered with an orphanage built in her name.
Her family, who lives in Holden, Mass., left New England Nov. 23 driving a 26-foot box truck loaded with the equipment needed to build an orphanage in Britney's name – in Haiti.
Renderings show the building to be constructed in the shape of a "B," the first letter in the girl's name.
Britney was a sophomore at Boca Raton's Lynn University and was on a mission trip to Haiti when the earthquake struck. She was among those who did not survive the devastating event.
Thanks to donations, her family has bought the land where the building will be erected.
Construction materials are expected to arrive in Miami Monday that will be shipped to Haiti in order to build a 19-thousand square foot orphanage in what is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.
