Low Pressure System Develops Off Puerto Rico
MIAMI (CBS4) - While the official start of the 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season may be two months away, forecasters are keeping their eye on an area of low pressure brewing out about 460 miles northeast of Puerto Rico.
The CBS4 Storm Team is monitoring the system as it moves towards the west-northwest near 10 miles per hour. On Wednesday the National Hurricane Center issued a Special Tropical Weather outlook which said the system had a low chance of developing into a Tropical or Sub-Tropical storm before conditions become less favorable for development in about 48 hours.
Right now it appears this area of low pressure will help pump in deep tropical moisture that will enhance our rain chance early next week.
Back in 2003, Tropical Storm Ana was the only April tropical storm on record. And back in 1992, Sub-Tropical Storm #1 was the only April sub-tropical storm on record. At the time, sub-tropical systems were not given names, but if that had been the case, then it would have been named Sub-Tropical Storm Andrew.
