Louisville Headed To The ACC
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The University of Louisville became the latest school to ditch the Big East Conference for the more stable ground of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The ACC presidents and chancellors voted unanimously Wednesday morning to add Louisville as the replacement for Maryland, which left the ACC the Big Ten last week. The ACC had also been considering adding Connecticut and Cincinnati over the last week before choosing Louisville.
The exact date Louisville will join the ACC isn't known as the Cardinals will have to negotiate an exit date with the Big East Conference. The Big East by-laws asked for a 27-month notice on leaving the conference, but various schools have negotiated less notice over the last year.
With the exit of Louisville, in addition to losing West Virginia and TCU to the Big XII and Pittsburgh and Syracuse to the ACC, the future of the Big East Conference is anything but bright.
The only remaining football power in the conference is Boise State University and the best basketball team left is arguably UConn. But, UConn has made no secret of wanting to join the ACC, and Cincinnati could be appealing to the Big XII Conference as well.
The Big East tried to address its problems on Tuesday by adding Tulane and East Carolina. However, those programs are a far cry from Louisville, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, and Syracuse.
