Lottery Rolls Out New Logo, New Games Coming
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) – Happy Birthday to the Florida Lottery.
On Monday, lottery officials unveiled a new logo to mark the agency's 25th anniversary.
At the event, Florida Lottery Secretary Cynthia O'Connell also recognized employees who have worked with agency for 25 years. By providing more chances to win, O'Connell said the agency continues to create greater funding for education in the state, including the Bright Futures Scholarship program which has sent more than 600,000 Florida students to college since its inception.
"The Florida Lottery is a true success story for the state of Florida," said Governor Rick
Scott. "For 25 years, this agency has consistently provided benefits to our state's economy and education system."
The Florida Lottery's first instant Scratch-Off game, MILLIONAIRE, premiered on January 12, 1988. Since then, it has created more than 1,200 millionaires, at a rate of almost two per week, last year alone. More than $37.7 billion has been paid out in prizes.
Over the past 25 years, the Lottery has also generated more than $24 billion for education in the state. Florida's community colleges and state universities have received a combined total of more than $6.3 billion since the Lottery's inception, and Florida's public schools have received more than $14 billion over the past 25 years.
