Longtime CBS Miami Web Producer Dave Game Dies At 57
MIAMI (CBS4) - Dave Game, a longtime member of the WFOR/CBS4 news family, passed away after a long illness on February 5, 2013. A veteran journalist with nearly four decades of experience in television, radio, and new media, he most recently managed South Florida internet operations for CBS, a position that found him playing a vital role in growing CBS South Florida internet properties to a dominant position.
In 1974, Mr. Game started his career in radio at age 18 by supervising the construction and FCC licensing process of a radio station for his college. After leaving college he spent a few years in commercial radio, first as a personality and later as News Director.
Two years later, he moved to television as a reporter and later an anchor in Elmira, New York, Huntsville, Alabama, Nashville, Tennessee and Detroit, Michigan. In 1985, he moved to WCIX (now WFOR) in Miami, where he served as an award-winning general assignment reporter, investigative reporter, and Emmy-award-winning investigative producer before making the move to new media in 1995.
Mr. Game helped create WFOR's website, one of the first broadcast websites in South Florida, and managed it as part of his duties as Senior Producer of Special Projects. In 2005, he moved to new media full-time, as Executive Producer for Digital Media for CBS stations in South Florida. He supervised a staff of six, which provides updated news and information virtually around the clock seven days a week for cbsmiami.com, and through his leadership, it became one of the most highly ranked broadcast websites in South Florida.
Mr. Game garnered numerous professional awards, among them, two Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards (including one for new media), 13 Emmy nominations, Florida Associated Press awards for Best Large Market reporter and Best Election Coverage (producer), and an Investigative Reporting award from the Society of Professional Journalists. He contributed to three Edward R. Murrow awards for overall excellence in television news, two Murrow awards for best newscast and one for spot news coverage. In 2009, the cbs4.com (now cbsmiami.com) website received an Edward R. Murrow award for excellence in internet journalism. In 2001, he was honored with the Silver Circle by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Suncoast Chapter for 25 years of service to Television.

Since 2002, Mr. Game served on the Board of Governors of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Suncoast Chapter, which represents television professionals from Louisiana to Puerto Rico, and in 2008 was elected President of the chapter for two terms. In 2011, he was named a national trustee of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Mr. Game was a founding board member of Journalists in Transition, an organization formed to help journalists in a changing media landscape find new professional opportunities.
An avid computer enthusiast, Mr. Game served five times as President of the Gold Coast Macintosh user group in Miami.
Mr. Game was born September 30, 1955 in Elmira, New York. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary Ann Game, two brothers Scott Game and Kevin Game, and sister Kimberly Brown, both of Northport, Fla.
