Some Locals Extend Their Lunch Break For The Love Of Soccer
MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- With World Cup matches in full swing, bars and restaurants across South Florida were packed with soccer fans cheering on their favorite teams.
It's wasn't your typical lunch time in Miami.
Crowds of women were dancing, flags swaying, champagne was flowing and business suits were mixing with soccer gear at Novecento in Brickell.
It was mostly an Argentinian crowd with fans taking in the World Cup, watching Argentina and Nigeria take the pitch during their lunch break.
"How long is your lunch break," asked CBS 4's Marybel Rodriguez to a business man standing by the bar with his jacket in one hand and a beer in the other.
"Depends who is playing, usually two hours to six hours depending on who is playing" said Robert Alegria a soccer fan.
Many soccer fans are extending their lunch break all for the love of the game.
One woman was not taking any chances. To enjoy her team's game to the fullest, she took a vacation day to kick back with her friends and watch.
"Well worth a vacation day," said Barbara Scarabello a soccer fan.
It is World Cup Fever in South Florida a perfect excuse for many to loosen their ties, kick back and take one for the team even if means taking time off from their busy schedules to enjoy the game.
