Local Artists And First Responders Lend Hand To Japan
MIAMI (CBS4) – One man is painting messages on paper, collecting money for his family and friends back in Japan.
"I am really concerned about Japan," said Taiga Yonemoto. "I am so worried about Japan."
Yonemoto sat on Lincoln Road Saturday raising money for his native county, wondering how his loved-ones are.
"I could not call them because the phone lines are so bad right now," he said.
Meanwhile at a local political meet-and-greet with Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen said first-responders are getting ready to help.
"We have firefighters here from Miami-Dade County who are ready to go to Japan, help out the people there, but we want to make sure from the State Department that we will fully be reimbursed with the cost," Ros-Lehtinen said.
Karls Paul-Noel, assistant chief at Miami-Dade Fire-Rescue said "it is rewarding to know that there is something you can do to alleviate the pain and help save lives and ultimately make a difference," he said.
"I hope Japan recovers as soon as possible," Yonemoto said.
