Lincoln Fields Apt. Residents Claim Harassment
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – Residents of the Lincoln Fields Apartment Complex in Liberty City said Thursday that they are the victims of harassment and intimidation at the hands of the property's management company.
"Everybody over here meets the federal poverty guidelines and with the way the economy and things are; we are at our wits end," said tenant Michael Daniels.
"You're searching through our personal belongings, dirty clothes hampers, things that are our own personal stuff and telling us we don't have rights?" asked Lincoln Fields resident Siera Lawson. "That's unjust."
Some tenants in Lincoln Fields told CBS4 that they are being ordered to leave without a lawful eviction process being followed and rummage through their apartments unannounced.
They also claim that the complex enforces a 10:00 p.m. curfew for the apartments with the help of Miami-Dade Police Officers, who have a work station at the complex.
When CBS4's Gary Nelson went to the management office Thursday, the management ordered CBS4's crew off the property and had Miami-Dade Police escort them off property.
Management later confirmed to CBS4 that a 10 p.m. curfew is enforced. Miami-Dade Police said they have off-duty details operating at the location whose only job is to maintain the peace.
