Letterman Moments That Impacted South Floridians

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- On the same day as the last show with David Letterman, we're looking back at some unforgettable Letterman moments that impacted so many in South Florida.
There were a few times when Letterman made headlines in South Florida. One was when he took the Late Show on the road to Coconut Grove back in 1996,
But it all began in 1993 when Dave left the peacock network for CBS.
CBS4's Gary Nelson interviewed the star via satellite about the headlines at the time which was the constant break-ins Dave was encountering from a female stalker.

Nelson asked, "She spends so much time at your house. Most folks are wondering why don't you marry the lady Dave?"
"Well refreshing insight Gary," responded Letterman while laughing. "I'll marry the woman."
When Letterman took to the Coconut Grove Playhouse stage in November of 1996, Miami was not known to be the playground of the young, hot and famous as it is now. It's shown in Dave's top 10 list from the show that night covering the top 10 good things about being a senior citizen.
"Early birds special at Hooters," said Letterman.
Fort Lauderdale based Comedian Wil Shriner, who is a regular on the Paul and Young Ron Show, met Letterman in 1977 when he filled in for Johnny Carson.
Shriner worked for Dave in the beginning of his career and has made appearances on the show ever since.
"When you come To David Letterman, you bring game," said Shriner. "The pressure was to make David laugh."
Listen up South Florida, Dave made a promise to us all those years ago.
"I am prepared every viewer in the city of Miami and metro Miami, if you can prove you are watching my show, you will, free of charge, get a weekend at my house," said Letterman.
