Legendary WWE Star Suffers Heart Attack During Live Show
MONTREAL, Quebec (CBSMiami) – Legendary wrestler and WWE commentator Jerry "The King" Lawler suffered a heart attack during Monday night's live broadcast of "Raw" and was rushed to the hospital.
Lawler collapsed during a tag-team match. According to his broadcast partner, Michael Cole, the incident was not part of the show and serious. Cole told viewers Lawler fell out of his chair and doctors rushed to his aid where they performed CPR.
The WWE issued a statement after "Raw" went off the air saying: "Jerry 'The King' Lawler suffered a heart attack while commentating during last night's broadcast of Monday Night Raw in Montreal. We are hopeful Jerry makes a full recovery and returns to WWE in the near future. Our thoughts are with Jerry and his family."
Lawler is 62-years-old and still wrestles consistently, though his matches have become less frequent in the WWE in recent years.
2:00 p.m. UPDATE FROM WWE: "As of this morning, Jerry "The King" Lawler is in a cardiac care unit, and all his vital signs are stable. WWE will provide additional information as it becomes available. We continue to wish Jerry all the best for a full recovery."
